Under 11s Match Report 15/10/22 – vs Brothers @Vigaro Field

Written by Michael Hope

The under 11s Pitbull pups had their first taste of the Mackay Cricket competition by taking on Brothers in Mackay.
After losing the bat flip and being sent into the field, Captain Kobi led his troops with some great bowling (1-10 off 4 overs) and a spectacular run out assisted by wicket keeper Aiden.
Bradley had the ball on a string (2-15 off 4 overs), and Aiden was looking dangerous (2-8 off 2 overs) who also got a direct hit for a run-out!
Good tight bowling from Jaxson (0-15 off 4 overs) and Matthew (0-7 off 2 overs) kept the Brothers at bay.
Sean (1-21 off 4 overs) came up with a peach to take out the middle stump!
Some quick running between the wickets at the back end of the innings got Brothers to a defendable 9-79 off the 20 overs.
Now it was the Pitbull pups turn to don the pads and swing the willow.
With Aiden 6 and Sean 1 getting off to a steady start, Matthew 5 was next, swinging the bat hard but picking out the fielders. Jaxson 8 top scored with some great hitting and running between the wickets. Bradley 7 was next and played some classy shots.
The required run rate was going up with some tight bowling from Brothers throughout the innings.
Kobi 4 did his best to get the Pitbull pups over the line, but it was a tough ask with the best bowlers coming back on at the end. 10-62 off the 20 overs was the result, 17 runs short.
Well done to all the players! we’ll get ‘em next time.
Player of the day went to Bradley.

Under 12s Match Report 15/10/22 – vs Walkerston @Vigaro Field

Written by Mark Porter

Round 1 had arrived and the Proserpine Pitbull young guns faced a formidable task on the road up against a strong Walkerston ‘Scrubbies’ Roosters club. To add to the challenge, the local team were a player short, had several on debut in the Mackay ‘Saturday’ competition and were also fielding a young, inexperienced side which included two 10-year old tyro’s.
Upon arrival to the ground it quickly became obvious the hot favourites had come to play with their squad in full flight in the nets under the watchful eye of several coaches. Pitbull Captain Ollie Dibben lost the toss with the gun Walkerston team electing to bowl. The ever reliable Shannon Matthews and Captain Dibben strode to the crease to open the season. After a 9-run opening stand, the Captain played a shot across the line and lost his middle stump, out for 2. Alex Valmadre then joined Shannon at the crease and settled the ship seeing the opener retire after his 20 balls. Noah Porter, the first of the young tyro’s then made his debut, pulling his second delivery to the boundary to settle the nerves. He too then elected to play across the line of a straight one and was quickly on his way back to the sheds for 5. Lily Smith then strode to the crease to face some hostile Scrubbie bowling. She and Alex V defied the attack until Lily copped a good one and was on her way. Alex V then retired after his 20 balls to see the underdogs at 3-64 at drinks.
Following the break, the second of the young tyro’s Korbin Dibben made his way to the middle, ably supported by big Benny Hope, aka ‘Starky’ after the famed Australian left-hand opening bowler Mitchell Starc. ‘Starky’ and young Korbin pushed the score along against some tight bowling to see the brave young tyro retire after his 20 deliveries. All-rounder Reg Davies then made his way to the middle. Under attack, he fought hard but was ultimately the victim of a sharp caught and bowled chance, out for 2. Big Starky soon followed for 3 leaving the two retirees together to push the score along. Alex V was then dismissed for 10 which saw young Korbin return. He and Shannon then took the score to 89 before he was given out lbw for 10 to close the innings leaving the brave youngster unbeaten on 1 after facing 23 balls – well done young man!
The chat at the break was positive, 89 was a competitive score but it will be tough against a strong Scrubbies batting unit. The shiny red nut was given to Ben ‘Starky’ Hope who to no-one’s surprise destroyed the Scrubby openers castle with his fourth delivery. Young tyro Noah Porter then ripped in from the other end with some tight line and length bowling. Captain Dibben then joined the attack and was quickly rewarded with the scalp of the Walkerston number 3 for a duck. Despite some tight bowling by Lily, young tyro Korbin and all-rounder Reg Davies who chipped in with a wicket just before the break, the bookies favourites went to the drinks break at 3-67 and on-track for a regulation victory.
The discussion at the interval amongst the Pitbulls was obvious, “we’ll have to bowl this team out to win, and to do this we’ll need to bowl well, take the chances when they come and support each other in the field”.
Wicket-keeper Alex V removed the pads and got the ball in his hands with ever-reliable Shanon M. Both players bowled great spells with Keeper Valmadre taking 2 key wickets and opener Shannon 1 including a spectacular low catch in the covers by big ‘Starky’. The star duo then also combined to execute a stunning run-out with a rocket throw from the deep by Alex V landing straight into the hands of Shannon who took the bails. Scrubbies 7-75, game on!
With the game on the line and the two star Scrubby batters at the crease, it was time to throw the ball to the Pitbull attacking spearheads. Big Benny ‘Starc’ proceeded to bowl a ripper maiden over to keep things tight. Over to young Noah P who stormed in. With the pressure on, he bowled a couple of tight ones before going full which enticed the gun Rooster opener into a lofted drive which headed in the direct of all-rounder Davies. Under immense pressure Reggie moved forward and cupped the chance with a great catch to win the game for the underdogs against all odds! A tough gritty performance to start the season, well done all!
Thanks to the scorers, supporters and parent/carers.
Players player – Alex Valmadre (10 runs, 2 wickets and a run-out)

Under 13s Match Report 15/10/22 – vs Magpies White @Vigaro Field

Written by Stephen Logan

The U13’s Pitbull’s first game of the season was against Magpies White in Mackay on Saturday 15th October. With only 6 players available for the match, the Pitbull’s won the toss and elected to bat. With the goal of batting the entire 25 overs, they lost an early wicket with W. Logan (1) caught in the covers by a superb reflect catch. The remaining batsmen then consolidated their position with M. Logan (73 not out), K. McLoughlin (59 not out), O. Seamer (28), J. Geisler (😎 and L. Dwyer (13 not out). At the completion of their 25 overs the U13’s had scored an impressive 3 – 214 runs.

With only 6 players the U13’s were set the task to bowl accurately, minimise the runs scored and get wickets. After bowling 23.4 overs the Pitbulls had dismissed the Magpies White, who finished on 8 – 84 runs. It was a great performance from the Pitbulls who bowled and fielded extremely well. The wickets were shared amongst the team with L. Dwyer (3-12), J. Geisler (2 – 20), M. Logan (1 – 7), W. Logan (1 – 10), O. Seamer (1 – 14) and K. McLoughlin (0 – 12).

Overall, it was a great team performance by the under strength U13’s team and with the return of the other U13 players, the team will be able to build on this strong start to the season. Matthew Logan was awarded the player of the match, scoring 73 not out (59 balls) and with bowling figures of 1-7 runs off 4.4 overs.
