Under 11s Match Report 26/11/22 – Proserpine Pitbulls vs Magpies White

Written by Michael Hope

The under 11s had their second away game for the season, against Magpies White in Mackay on Saturday.

Captain Matthew tossed the bat which went to Magpies, who had no hesitation to pad up and set the total.
Captain Matthew (0/3 off 3) took the new ball and bowled some very tight overs but was unlucky not to snare a Magpie wicket.
Jeandre (3/17 off 3) managed to destroy the Magpies castle 3 times in his 3 overs with some top notch deliveries.
Jaxson (2/15 off 3) also picked up a couple of scalps with the extra bit of pace proving difficult for the Magpies batters.
Kobi snuck an over and a wicket in before donning the wicket keeping gear and showing great skills behind the stumps.
Laura (0/6 off 2) had the Magpies confused with her ripping leg spinners, and also got a cracker of a run out.
Ellen (0/13 off 2) bowled an excellent line and length, but missed out on a Magpie feather.
Bradley (1/9 off 2) got an awesome caught and bowled!
Zahra (1/7 off 2) had the ball and the Magpies heads spinning, picking up her first wicket with an excellent couple of overs!
Sean (0/8 off 2) bowled a couple of nice overs and also shared in the wicket keeping duties.

10/86 was the target. With 9 players, the Pitbulls would only have 13 balls each to play with.

A quick orange break and out came Zahra (2) and Ellen (8) to open the batting. Some great running and a 4 from Ellen got us off to a good start.
Matthew (14) and Jeandre (12) were next and both played an excellent innings, going just above and just below a run a ball.
Bradley (2) and Laura (2) faced a tough patch of bowling, but did well to find runs where they could.
Kobi (6) and Sean (2) combined well to keep the scoreboard edging towards the Magpies total.
Jaxson (7) was last in, and knowing it was going to be a close finish, went hard at everything, and it proved to be enough.
8/92. Our first win in the under 11s competition!!!
Awesome work Pitbulls!!

Under 12s Match Report 26/11/22 – Proserpine Pitbulls vs Brothers

Written by Mark Porter

The Pitbulls arrived at Vigaro keen to make amends for an earlier round loss to Brothers. Captain Lily Smith won the toss and elected to bowl. The shiny red one was thrown to wicket taker Benny Hope (2-3) who didn’t disappoint knocking the Brothers opener middle stump out of the ground early. Noah Porter (0-9) ripped in at the other end to limit the locals scoring supported by Ollie Dibben (2-7) who took an early wicket with a pressure catch taken by Noah P at mid-off. Despite a defiant innings by the talented Brothers opener, Captain Lily (0-5) and all-rounder Reg Davies (0-16) continued to tighten the screws with some tight bowling. Developing young spinner Korbin Dibben (1-2) then took the ball and had immediate success with a peach of a turner that dislodged the bails of the locals number 5, Brothers 3-37 at drinks. Impressive young debutant Tyrone Selling (0-5) then settled his nerves with 2 great overs. Jayden Joubert (1-4) and Alex Valmadre (1-6) then chipped in taking a wicket each straight after the break, including that of the returning opener, 5-45, locals struggling. Time now to get the ball back in the hands of the opening trio to land the knockout blows. Big leftie Ben H stormed in from the airport end to immediately knock another stump out of the ground. Ollie D then wrapped up the innings next over with a great caught and bowled – Brothers all out 63.

Prossie’s turn with the bat, the game plan simple, 20 balls, 25 overs. Jayden J (18no) and keeper Alex V (10no) strode to the middle and didn’t muck around with some attacking stroke play to get the visitors off to a hot start with both retiring at their 20 balls. Ollie D (16) and Reggie D (7) continued to push the score along before Ollie was run-out, the young Pitbulls 1-57, game well in control. Noah P (4) and Reg fell soon after, 3-80. Benny Hope (15no) then played a cameo late in the innings to reach his 20 balls as did Captain Lily (2no) young Korbin (5no) and debutant Tyrone (7no) to see the Pitbulls finish at 3-107. A great team effort, followed the game plan to a tee, well done all.
Thanks again to all the parents, and a special thanks to Sharon V for transporting the gear and scoring. Also to Troy S for looking after the team in the 2nd innings. Time now for the beach and backyard cricket season to commence! I wish you all a Merry Xmas, see you next year.

Players player Tyrone Selling for a great debut (0-5, 7no)

Under 13s Match Report 26/11/22 – Proserpine Pitbulls vs Pioneer Valley

Written by Stephen Logan

For the third week in a row, the U13’s travelled to Mackay for their Saturday match, with the venue changed from the Mirani School pitch to North Mackay due to the mid-week rain.
The PJCA U13’s won the toss and elected to bat, with the team goal of batting all 25 overs to ensure that with only 7 players, they had a high enough score to defend. Both Pitbull openers started well with O.Seamer scoring 11 runs (19 balls) before the partnership ended at 1/28. K.McLoughlin came in at number 3 and promptly took on the PV attack with 19 runs (14 balls) including 2 sixes before being out with the score 2/46. With J.Rock retiring after his 20 balls, the Logan boys came together and had a short partnership until M.Logan played on with the score at 3/77. J.Lawn came to the crease and stabilised the Pitbull’s innings scoring 14 (14 balls) partnering with the B.Childs 0 (10 balls) and J.Rock to push the score on 5/110. With only 1 wicket in hand and 6 overs remaining, the last pair played extremely well, pushing the score to 136 before W.Logan 21 (37 balls) was dismissed in the 24th Over, J.Rock unbeaten on 39. Although the team did not bat for their 25 overs, they ended their innings with a solid total of 136 runs.

With a drying outfield and bowling into a moderate sea breeze, the Pitbulls set about defending their score with K.McLoughlin opening with some very quick bowling. After some very efficient keeping, K.McLoughlin got his line right and their opening batmen took a rising ball on his thigh. Alert to the batmen not being behind his crease, he was stumped by the keeper (W.Logan) on the last ball of the 1st over. M.Logan started the 2nd over with some accurate swing bowling removing the new batsman for a duck with his 3rd ball. The wickets continued to tumble with K.McLoughlin bowling their new batsmen in the 3rd over and after the opening pair first 4 overs, the PV team were 3/13. In the 5th over K.McLoughlin continue to bowl at pace, getting his 3rd wicket caught behind and PV in trouble at 4/20. J.Rock and B.Childs then took up the bowling challenge with J.Rock taking the 5th wicket and then B.Childs removing their keeper for a Golden Duck, before taking his second wicket stumped by W.Logan. After 13 overs drinks were taken with the Pitbulls requiring 1 more wicket to win and trying to break PV’s last wicket stand. The Pitbulls refreshed and focused, returned to the field and M.Logan ended the match by bowling their 8th batsman, with PV all out for 85 in the 15th over.

Another great team performance with only 7 players against a full-strength opposition. The U13’s all participated in this win, with some great individual performances including J.Rock 39* & 4 overs 1-16, K.McLoughlin 19 & 4 overs 3-28, M.Logan 6 & 4 overs 2-3 and J.Lawn’s solid batting performance scoring 14 to steady the innings. However, todays player of the match was W.Logan who scored 21 runs off 37 balls and some excellent keeping with 2 stumpings and 1 catch behind.

The U13’s team continued to show their great team work again this week, remaining undefeated this season. Next week’s home game is the last before the Christmas break and J.Rocks last before heading to Brisbane for 2023.

Under 15s Match Report 26/11/22 – Proserpine Pitbulls vs Pioneer Valley

Written by Jack Valmadre

This weekend’s round 7 clash saw our 1st placed u15 Pitbulls face the 2nd place Pioneer Valley at Mirani State School. Due to there being plenty of rain in Mackay leading up to the match, it was decided that it would be played on an Astro pitch. Captain J.Williams won the toss and elected to bat 6, sending openers K.Porter and J.Valmadre out to the middle to try and battle the wet conditions early and set a solid platform for the rest of the team to accumulate a large total. The batsmen survived the opening bowlers and looked for singles until J.Valmadre (4 off 26) was knocked over by a ball that stayed low on the wet pitch and cut off the swollen seam on the last ball of the opening spell. This brought L.McDermid in with the pitbulls at 1/10 after 6 overs. He and K.Porter then dug in for a few overs before L.McDermid (2 off 10) was bowled by a beautiful delivery, leaving the away team shocked at 2/24 after 8. The in-form C.Stroud (20 off 9) strode out to the crease and swung at everything, dispatching 3 fours and a 6 off one over before top edging a full toss to the fielder at deep square leg and getting caught on the boundary in his final game for the Pitbulls in the regular season before departing to go to boarding school and missing the post-Christmas games. D.Pettiford and K.Porter then played beautifully to get the Pitbulls to 3/62 until K.Porter (20 off 31) was left stunned after he was run out with a direct hit from the boundary, bringing A.Hardy-Young (0 off 4) in with an over until drinks. He was then bowled by an absolute rocket, causing the Panthers confidence to soar heading into the drinks break with the Pitbulls in shambles at 5/63 after 14 overs. After the drinks break Pioneer Valley came out with a bang and got 2 quick wickets, J.Williams (6 off 8) was run out (arguably his favourite way to get out this season) followed by J.Watson (1 off 4) who was bowled soon after. M.Gabey and D.Pettiford then batted excellently to get the Proserpine side to 7/135 with one over left. The final over consisted of 3 wickets falling for no runs with D.Pettiford (35 off 46), M.Gabey (14 off 27) and Z.Henry (0 off 3) falling, leaving A.Geisel unbeaten (0* off 0) and the Pitbulls wrapping up their innings at a defendable 135 all out.
Pioneer Valley were then sent out to bat with 136 required for victory. Pioneer Valley got off to a good start, not giving Proserpine any chances and consistently rotating strike to tick over the scoreboard. They got to 0/36 until a fired-up D.Pettiford (1-24) rocketed one into the opener’s stumps, sending them cartwheeling across the grass. This inspired A.Hardy-Young (1-15), as 4 balls later he trapped the other opener in front, leaving the home team stunned at 2-38. Pioneer Valley didn’t allow the Pitbulls to stay on top for long however, as they put on a partnership of 60 before a magic direct hit from M.Gabey, nailing 1 stump from square leg, sent the oppositions star batter back to the sheds, giving Prossy a glimmer of hope, the Panthers going into the drinks break at 3-98 and well on top of the visitors. J.Watson (0/27), A.Geisel (0/16), L.McDermid (0/27) and C.Stroud (0-23) all bowed well but with no reward, the home team winning the game comfortably at 3-136 after 21 overs and ending the Pitbulls undefeated start to the season.
